Lakes 52, Battle Ground 7

(Lakewood, WA) It was Homecoming for the Lakes Lancers and they weren’t about to allow an upset on their big celebration day. After the kick-off went out at the 40 yard and it took just 1 play as Frosh QB Legend Galeai handed the ball off to Leo Pulalasi who sprinted off left tackle and was gone 60 yards for the touchdown. The Lancers went for 2 but came up shot and led 6-0 just 13 seconds into the game.

The two teams exchanged punts and Lakes took over again on their own 42. Ki’marree Washington then took over running it in from the 28 yard for a touchdown to go up 12-0 as the PAT failed again. Washington then rattled off an 84 yard sprint to paydirt and the Lancers did connect on the 2 point play as Pulalasi ran it in and it was 20-0 late in the 1st quarter. Washington finished the game with 127 yards rushing and the 2 scores.

Battle Ground had a hard time getting anything going on offense and on the next drive they were stopped again but on 4th down disaster hit with a high snap to the punter and Lakes got the ball on the Tiger 8. CJ Davis ran it in just 1 play into the 2nd quarter, Preston Jones booted the PAT and it was 27-0.

The Lancers continued to build an insurmountable lead with a 1-yard plunge by Pulalasi set up after an interception by Chayanne Fonti-Savea to go up 40-0. Lakes finished off the 1st half with Galeai hitting Pulalasi on a 43-yard catch and run scoring play, the PAT was no good and at the break it was 46-0.

The 2nd half began with a running clock and Battle Ground came out determined to put together a big offensive drive, put some points on the board and have some momentum built going into next week’s GSHL league opener and that’s just what they did. They began on their own 38 and moved the ball out to the 50. Kameron Spencer then dropped back and looked for Grayson Gambee streaking down the middle of the field and unloaded a perfect rainbow ball into the hands of Gambee who finished off the run for the touchdown. Trent Richardson came on to kick the PAT and the shut-out was avoided.

Lakes added a late interception return for a TD from Mekhi Mbajah and the final score was 52-6. The Lakes Lancers are now 5-0 on the season and will host Spanaway Lake next week in a huge PCL match-up while Battle Ground drops to 2-4 and will host Union in their GSHL opener on Friday.

Our MVP of the Game went to Leo Pulalsi for his 3 TD’s 2 point conversion and excellent work on defense. He finished with 75 yards rushing and 83 receiving plus he was also voted Homecoming King.
