Last week we did a story about the officials shortage that was highlighted in the Olympia-Curtis basketball game. In that story, we looked at what all had to happen just to get that game off and running.

Over the weekend, our link that we tweeted out was retweeted by a Japanese basketball account. The issue is not just in Washington state. It isn’t even just an issue in the United States. It is an issue that is affecting multiple countries all over the world.

Their tweet reads, “The lack of officials is a real problem! This is an example of what it takes to send a referee to a children’s match. The situation was that the two top teams were hoping to play last Friday and wouldn’t have been able to play this crazy night if there was any mistake.”

At first we thought that the tweet was just sent from a spam account but in reality this crisis is all over the globe.
