ESN had 4 football games on Friday night 2 games on Saturday and an afternoon girls soccer match. Our coverage is all below with short re-caps, links to our Post-Game shows and video highlights.

Football

Tumwater 34, WF West 0

The T-Birds burst out to a 27-0 halftime lead and added 1 2nd half score while the defense pitched the shut out over the visiting Bearcats. Tumwater is now 3-1 on the season while WF West drops to 2-2. The Bearcats will play at Shelton next week while Tumwater does not have a game scheduled at this time and next will host Shelton on October 8.

The Thorbeckes home team MVP went to Karson Schreiner and the Pacific Sports Spa visiting team MVP was Gavin Fugate.

Yelm 50, River Ridge 6

The Yelm Tornados are off to a fast 3-0 start and were the top ranked 3A team in the recently released state RPI rankings and were in no mood to relinquish that top spot when they took on River Ridge. The Tornados got things started with a defensive take-away for a TD and would build a 38-0 halftime lead. They pushed that lead to 50-0 before River Ridge got into the endzone in the 4th quarter.

Yelm is now 4-0 and 2-0 in SSC conference play and River Ridge is now 2-2 overall and 1-1 in conference play. The Tornados will go after a 5-0 start when they host Capital next Friday night and River Ridge will look to bounce back at home against Peninsula. Our Thorbeckes home team MVP was Jarek Berg for River Ridge and our Pacific Sports Spa visiting team MVP went to Brayden Platt.

Tenino 20, Onalaska 14

The Tenino Beavers fell behind the always dangerous Onalaska Loggers by 14 points early in the game but they did not give in. The Beaver defense tightened their defense and would end up shutting out the Loggers for the rest of the game. Meanwhile, Tenino ground away at the deficit before hitting a huge run in the 4th quarter by Dylan Spicer into the endzone for the go-ahead and winning score.

Tenino is now 4-0 on the season and will begin EVCO 1A conference play next Saturday afternoon at Eatonville. Onalaska drops to 1-2 on the year but are 1-1 on Central 2B conference play. The Loggers next play Toledo at home on Friday night. The Pacific Sports Spa visiting team MVP went to Ony’s Marshall Haight and the Thorbeckes home team MVP went to Tenino’s punter Sal Ontiveros.

Eastside Catholic 35, Seattle Prep 13

The Crusaders were playing only their 2nd game of the season and had been off for 2 weeks since winning their opener on Septemeber 3rd over Kennedy Catholic. E-C did not miss a beat after not playing for 2 weeks and came out swinging with a huge play and score to open the game and eventually drawing off to a 35-6 lead before Seattle Prep could get their 2nd score.

Eastside Catholic will next face Garfield at Memorial Stadium next Friday night. The Bulldogs are 4-0 and it is a showdown of the unbeatens. Seattle Prep suffered their 1st loss and are now 3-1. The Panthers will look to get back in the win column at home against O’Dea. The MVP’s for the game went to the Crusaders Brady McKelheer and for the Panthers Jack Veiling.

Kennedy Catholic 34, Tahoma 17

Kennedy Catholic is not used to beginning a season 0-2 and were ready to get that 1st win on the board when they hosted the Tahoma Bears on Saturday afternoon at Highline Stadium. The Lancers would jump out to a 14-0 lead but Tahoma would battle back and trail 14-10 at the break.

Kennedy Catholic would extend it back to a 10 point advantage but Tahoma answered making it a 3-point ball game at 20-17. The Lancer defense answered the bell and shut out the Bears for the rest of the game and added 2 scores for the final 34-17. Kennedy Catholic is now 1-2 and Tahoma falls to 2-2. Tahoma will play at Federal Way next Saturday afternoon and Kennedy Catholic is at Todd Beamer next Friday.

Napavine 66, Rainier 6

The Napavine Tigers rolled to their 4th win while Rainier finally got through the Covid protocol to be able to play just their 2nd game of the season. Napavine took full advantage of the extra games and preparation and struck early and often to roll to the big win. The Tigers have now outscored their opponents 184-32.

Napavine will travel to Ilwaco next week in search of win #5 and Rainier hopes to get back on track when they host North Beach. The Pacific Sports Spa visiting team MVP went to Logan Bowers and the home team MVP was Napavine’s Lucas Dahl.

Girls Soccer

Camas 2, Tumwater 0 

The Papermakers traveled to Tumwater for a Saturday afternoon matinee and came away with a 2-0 shut out win. Camas is now 6-0 on the season and will get back to GSHL 4A play at Skyview next Tuesday. The T-Birds take their first loss of the season and are now 6-1. They get back to EVCO 2A action on Tuesday when they host Centralia. The visiting team MVP went to the Papermakers’ Emerson Grafton and the home team MVP was Ainsley Wall.
