Volleyball
WF West 3, Elma 2 (18-25, 25-9, 19-25, 25-21, 15-9)
This non-league match-up was a battle from the word go. The 1A Elma Eagles jumped on their hosts in the 1st set winning with a solid performance down the stretch. In set 2 it looked like the win may have been a fluke as the Bearcats blew out the Eagles 25-9 however the Eagles bounced back and proved the fluke was them only scoring 9 points in a set and took set 3 to go up 2-1 and 1 set away from winning the match.
WF West dug deep and refused to give winning the 4th set in a tight 25-21 score setting up a 5th and final set, a race to 15. The 2 teams traded blows and with WF West holding a slim 8-7 lead they would go on the run of the match outscoring Elma 7-2 to complete the comeback win.
The Bearcats are now 1-1 in non-league and will next host Mossyrock on Wednesday night in another non-league match-up while Elma drops to 2-2 and will host Aberdeen on Thursday. The Thorbeckes home team MVP went to the Bearcat’s Mari Ceesay and the Pacific Sports Spa visiting team MVP is Elma’s Brooklyne Swarts.

Gig Harbor 3, Capital 1 (16-25, 25-21, 25-20, 25-18)
The Gig Harbor Tides got out of the blocks a little slow but once they got warmed up they fired off 3 straight set wins for the 3-1 win over an always tough Capital Cougar squad. The Tides dug in and although Capital stayed in striking distance they could not overcome the late set defense of Gig Harbor to pull off another set win to force a 5th set.
Gig Harbor improves to 2-0 and will next host North Thurston on Thursday. Capital drops to 0-3 and also are in SSC action on Thursday hosting Yelm. The visiting team MVP went to Anya Wild and the home MVP was Sydney Bronson. The Awards West Printwares post-game show with our ESN crew is linked below with some video highlights.

The Panthers jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead but the Lancers bounced back in the 3rd set taking a lead late trying to force a 4th set. The rally fell short as Bonney Lake used a strong serving effort to come from behind to put the match away in 3 sets. Bonney Lake improves to 3-2 and Lakes drops to 1-2 overall. The visiting team MVP went to Tessa Schneider who led off the 2nd set with 9 straight points from the service line. The home team MVP was Melila Pulalasi for her strong middle and net work for the Lancers.
