Thursday night we had a girls and boys soccer match one in the Metro and one in the PCL and a Fastpitch game in the EVCO 2a. Our re-caps and highlight videos are all below.

Girls Soccer
Garfield 2, Eastside Catholic 0

In what was the third place game for the Metro League, the Bulldogs and Crusaders squared off for the second time in the span of a week. The match started with a heavy domination of possession for Eastside Catholic and that led to them having several chances to take the lead, but they were not able to direct a ball on frame despite three great opportunities from in swinging corner kicks. Sofia Perrina, Ellery Norton and Thea Smith all combined to have a solid half for Eastside Catholic.

Garfield on the other hand only had one great look in the first half on a counterattack by Lucy Gaines that eventually fizzled out due to the swarming defense of the Crusaders back line. Sending us to the halftime break level at 0-0.

The script was completely flipped in the second 40 minutes of action as the Bulldogs were the one creating the better chances. Unlike the Crusaders in the first half, Garfield was able to convert. Carrie Haung raced down the far touch line then cut back towards goal before taking a shot on frame at the toughest of angles, but not too tough for her. The ball went in and gave the Bulldogs a 1-0 lead. Even crazier than that goal, was that she had an even better one just a few moments later. Off a free kick it was a laser from about 20 yards out finding the back of the net and secured the 2-0 win for her Bulldogs.

Garfield finished the season 4-3 while Eastside Catholic dropped to an even 3-3. Our Players of the game went to Garfield’s Carrie Huang and Eastside Catholic’s Thea Smith.

Boys Soccer
Lakes 1, Mount Tahoma 1

(Lakewood, WA) This was a good battle from the beginning with neither team willing to give much. Both teams made strong runs but were denied by strong defenses and keeper play. Lakes would finally break through late in the 1st half. Off a throw in from Benjamin White, the ball bounces off Ethan Jones and to the foot of Quinn Bieber who popped to the left of T-Bird keeper Pablo Rodriguez-Leon and in for the score. The Lancers would take that 1-0 lead into halftime.

In the 2nd half it looked much like the 1st with each team’s defense really holding firm. But things would change about halfway through the 2nd half when a Lakes player went to kick at the ball but was beaten to the spot and he connected with the leg of a T-Bird injuring him, the official immediately red-carded the Lakes player and he was sent off the field and the Lancers would play with a man down for the final 20+ minutes.

Mount Tahoma’s David Baltazar would send in a long pass in front of the goal where Nabaz Omar would re-direct it past the Lancers keeper Jonathan Bieber for the equalizer knotting up the match at 1-1. Lakes was forced into a defensive position with a man down and did not want to end up losing the game and kept the T-Birds at bay to settle for the tie.

Both keepers played exceptional leading their teams defenses and for their efforts both Jonathan Bieber and Pablo Rodriguez-Leon are our Players of the game. Lakes is now 2-2-1 for the season and Mount Tahoma 1-3-1. The Lancers will host Bonney Lake on Saturday at 6pm and Mount Tahoma will next play at Wilson on Saturday at 7pm.

Fastpitch
WF West 9, Shelton 1

(Chehalis, WA) The WF West Bearcats rolled to their 6th straight win behind the power of pitcher Kamy Dacus. This was the week for almost perfect games, in Major League baseball the White Sox Carlos Rodon took a perfect game into the 9th but hit a batter to spoil, he did get the no-hitter but no perfecto. Dacus also had a perfect game going into the final inning when Shelton’s Donyka Squite belted a 1-oout home run. Video below) Dacus had to settle for the 1 hit victory.

Dacus had plenty of early offense to work with as the Bearcat offense piled up a 5-0 lead after 2 innings. In the bottom of the 2nd with 2 outs the Cat’s put 2 on when Saige Brindle stepped up and singled in 2 runs for the 2 run-2 out rally. (Video below) The Bearcats brought the wood to the plate in this one with 4 hitters picking up 2 hits including Brindle, Savannah Hawkins, Brielle Etter and Dacus. Dacus capped off the Bearcats scoring with a 2 run home rum in the bottom of the 6th. (Video below)

WF West is now 6-0 while the Highclimbers drop to 4-3. Our Pacific Sports Spa visiting player of the game went to Donyka Squire and the Thorbeckes home team player of the game was Kamy Dacus.
