Pierce CC 11, Centralia CC 0
(Centralia, WA) The Centralia Blazers got off to a solid start against the Raiders of Pierce College but the lack of a timely hit and untimely miscues by the defense plus too many walks by pitching were simply too much for the Blazers. Riley Olson got the start and went 5 innings giving up just 1 run and after 5 it was 1-0 Pierce.
Centralia had a chance to get on the board in the 1st inning when Drew Forgione walked with 1 out and then with 2 outs Taylor Modina doubled but Forgione held at 3rd giving the Blazers runners on 2nd and 3rd. A strike-out ended the inning and the threat.
The Blazers threatened again in the 3rd when Forgione again walked with 2 outs and advanced to 2nd on a Wes Kuzminsky base hit but a ground out ended the inning. Braden Smetz singled with one out in the 5th but a 6-4-3 double play killed that attempt and in the 7th with 2 out Blake Marker singled and stole 2nd but was left stranded.
Meantime, the Raiders started getting to Olsen in the top of the 6th and Riley came out with 1 out. Pierce would plate 4 runs in the 6th to push their lead to 5-0. They would score 2 more in the 7th and 5 in the 8th to make it 11-0 and Blazers drop their conference opener.
Our Alderson’s Awards West Blazer of the Game went to catch Braden Smutz who went 1-3 and had several plays with balls in front of home plate and threw out a Raider trying to steal 2nd. The Blazers play at Tacoma tomorrow.
