(Olympia, WA) The Olympia Bears the Cinderella team of all 4 State Tournaments that got underway Tuesday night after finishing the regular season 4-10-2 and limped into the District Tournament. The Bears then went on an incredible 3 game winning streak capping it off with a shoot out win over highly ranked Camas to earn a #1 seed into the State Tournament.
Kamiak drew the Bears after placing 2nd in the Wesco and going 3-1 in the District Tournament taking a #2 seed. The Knights, although featured in many fairy tales had no interest in being in this one and jumped on the Bears quickly with a goal in the 7th minute on a corner kick from Manuel Segura that found the head of Soren Pehlivanian. This play also earned our ProActive Physical Therapy Play of the Game.
Kamiak added a 2nd goal 9 minutes later on a goal by Andre` Hamilton. Hamilton then was awarded a shaky PK when the official ruled Olympia keeper Matteo Delguidice fouled Hamilton by going after the player and not a loose ball. Bears Coach was not convinced and neither were a large Bears fan base at the Stadium. Hamilton did not miss the PK and Kamiak was in charge 3-0.
In the 2nd half the Bears tried to quickly get back in the match knowing they had to score early for any chance. Olympia made deep runs led by Khalil Bredeson, Adam Rapacz and Julian Desmond. But the Knights defensive backline of Connor Ruis, Jason Kim, Cade Cooke with keeper Jesus Gary denied those Bear attacks. Kamiak capped the scoring in the 67th minute when Noah Venditto punched it on from the top of the box.
Olympia had their season come to an end with a 7-11-2 record while Kamiak will advance to the Quarterfinal later this week against tomorrow night’s winner between Bothell and Todd Beamer. The Knights are now 12-5-2. Our Tommy Lowe of Greene Realty Players of the Game were Andre` Hamilton for Kamiak and Khalil Bredeson for Olympia.
