United 5, King’s Way Christian 1

(Winlock, WA) United clinched the Trico league title on Tuesday with their win over White Salmon so keeping his players focused was what Head Coach Horst Malunat had to contend with for the final 3 matches. On Thursday it wasn’t a difficult task as it was their final home game and Senior night.

United got things going just 2 minutes into the match when Gustavo Barragan tip toed down the goal line, split defenders and flicked one over the top of the keeper for the goal. This play also earned our ProActive Physical Therapy Play of the Game.

United would strike again at the 20 minute mark when Andreas Malunat pounded in a 25-yard free kick to make it 2-0. United increased their lead to 3-0 just 6 minutes later, Jonathan VanVleck re-directed a deflection off a defender right in front of the goal and scored putting United up 3-0 going into halftime.

The Knight’s would get on the board in a hurry in the 2nd half when a penalty was called in the box and Austin Lauser knocked home a PK to make it 3-1 in the 41st minute. United took exactly 2 minutes to answer nullifying any change in momentum when Malunat scored his 2nd goal knocking in a shot off a pass from Barragan who got the assist. United capped the scoring in the 68th on a David VanVleck goal that he tipped in off a corner kick from Jonathan VanVleck that Dawson Hall headed and David knocked in.

United improved to 10-0 in league play and KWC fell to 6-4-1 and in a battle for 2nd place with La Center and Columbia (White Salmon) with Seton Catholic still with an outside shot. Our Tommy Lowe of Greene Realty Players of the Game went to United’s Andreas Malunat and KWC’s Colton Lange.

United Seniors Carmen Robles, Jonathan VanVleck, Julian Sanchez, Thomas Campbell, Corbin Mansker, Jonathan FoaFoa, Aiden Cibrian, Santos Balbuena, David VanVleck and Troy Struzan were all honored prior to the match and all got in to play in this match.
