Game 1 Tumwater 13, Centralia 0
Game 2 Tumwater 5, Centralia 4
(Tumwater, WA) The Evco 2A Baseball league is a jumbled cluster with the first 4 teams with the advantage to WF West thanks to a Bearcat sweep yesterday giving them a 9-1 league mark with 5 games to play. Black Hills knocked off Aberdeen twice in their twin bill and are now 8-3 but have already lost twice to WF West with one left to play against the Cats and will need help to catch them. Tumwater took charge of 3rd place with a 2 game sweep over Centralia and improves to 6-3 while the Tigers fell to 5-4 both the T-Birds and Tigers have 6 games left to play. Rochester at 1-8 and Aberdeen at 0-8 are likely in a spoiler position.
ESN covered T-Birds vs Centralia and Tumwater clearly was ready to break out of their 3 game losing streak and scored in each of the 4 innings they batted in the 1st game. Tumwater made short work of the Tigers in the opener with a huge 10-run 3rd inning where they sent 16 batters to the plate and left the bases loaded when Centralia finally got out of that inning with their 3rd pitcher, Kolby Baird of the inning.
Logan Hayes began the blow-up with a base hit. Zach Jones then stepped up to the left side of the plate and blasted a shot over the left field fence to give Tumwater a 4-0 lead. Michael Wagar then doubled followed by a fly out. Austin Pullar then doubled knocking in Wagar. Trayten Rodriguez then slapped a base hit followed by a bases clearing double from Noah Andrews who then scored on the play due to a throwing error made it 8-0. Noah Sirkel then got on by an error followed by Jackson Davis’s single. Logan Hayes would take his 2nd turn at the plate in the inning with an RBI base hit followed by a strikeout for the 2nd out of the inning. Wagar then doubled for the 2nd time in the inning for 2 more runs to make it 10-0 and then Wagar scored when Rodriguez walked with the bases loaded. The Tigers would finally get the 3rd out but the damage was done trailing 12-0, it could have been worse as the T-Birds did leave the bases loaded.
Tumwater also got a brilliant pitching effort from starter Logan Chase who pitched the complete game giving up just 2 hits, 2 walks while striking out 9. Isaiah Trevino slapped a base hit in the top of the 1st and Jeremy Wood got the 2nd hit in the top of the 5th, both hits punched into right field between 1st and 2nd base. Our Tommy Lowe of Greene Realty Players of the Game went to Austin Pullar of Tumwater and Jeremy Wood for Centralia and our ProActive Physical Therapy Play of the Game went to Tumwater’s Noah Andrews for a great play on a ball up the middle to keep the Tigers off the board in the top of the 4th inning.
In game 2 it was more of the same, Tumwater scoring runs and an inept Centralia offense. The T-Birds put up 3 on starter Noah Thomas to start the game. Noah Andrews walked and Jackson Davis knocked him in with a 1-out RBI base hit. Logan Hayes then came through with an RBI single scoring pinch runner Trayten Rodriguez. Following a walk and an error, Jakob Holbrook then popped a single to score the 3rd run. Thomas then retired the next 2 with strikeouts.
Tumwater added a run in the 4th scoring Andrew Pullar on an RBI single from Noah Sirkel and then in the top of the 6th Jakob Holbrook led off the inning with a stand-up triple. Andrew Pullar then lifted a high fly ball to right field easily scoring Holbrook making it 5-0 and little did the T-Birds know this was a huge run in the end.
For Centralia, Noah Thomas really settled in and pitched well keeping them in the game and they would make their
run in the bottom of the 7th. Broc Selstrom led off with a single while Nat Lopez got on by getting hit with a pitch. Jeremy Wood collected his 2nd hit of the day to load the bases. Nick Stulken then knocked in pinch runner Connor Wasson to make it 5-1 with 1 out.
Tumwater starter Justin Barber had pitched a solid game but the Tigers were starting to get to him. Kolby Sharp then got on due to an error while a run scored to make it 2-0. Hodges Bailey then ripped a 2-run double to make 5-4 with the tying run now on 2nd with 1 out. Barber then walked Joseph Pineda and that would do it for him. Wesley Swick came in and walked the bases loaded and his day was done as Coach Clay Hill went back to the pen and inserted Landon Jordan to try and get out of a bases loaded with 1 out and a 1 run lead jam. Jordan came through with a huge strike-out that would earn our ProActive Physical Therapy Play of the Game for the 2nd out.
This allowed Tumwater to drop their defense back to their normal positions to play for just one out instead of trying to stop the tying and potentially the winning run from coming in. Selstrom would come up for his 2nd at bat of the inning as the Tigers hit around and he drilled a hard grounder to the right of 2nd baseman Andrew Pullar who gloved it and flipped the ball to Noah Andrews at 2nd getting the force for the final out of the game securing the sweep.
Our Tommy Lowe of Greene Realty players of the game went to the T-Birds Jackson Davis and Centralia’s Noah Thomas. The 2 teams will meet again today to wrap up their 3-game season series and remains a very important game for both teams.
