Tumwater 7, Aberdeen 0
(Tumwater, WA) The undefeated T-Birds sent their hot hand to the pitching mound trying to keep their streak alive. Logan Chase came within 2 outs of a no-hitter in a game just before Spring Break and tonight Chase cruised through 5 innings of no-hit ball. However, the Birds offense wasn’t exactly giving him a lot of breathing room and Aberdeen’s starting pitcher Grant Larson kept them in the game down just 1-0 going into the bottom of the 5th.
In the 1st inning Chase walked lead-off hitter Chris Oldham who then stole 2nd. The Cats had a runner in scoring position with no outs. Blake Swenson then tried to bunt Oldham to 3rd but Chase caught him looking on a full count for the 1st out. Chase then came up with our ProActive Physical Therapy Play of the Game when he wheeled around and fired a laser to shortstop Noah Andrews who laid down a perfect tag and picked off Oldham clearing the bases for the 2nd out. Chase then struck out the next batter for a 3 up and 3 down inning.
Tumwater would get on the board 1st in the bottom of the 3rd when Noah Andrews walked to lead off the the inning. Noah Sirkel then ripped his 2nd of 3 singles in the game pushing Andrews to 3rd base. Jackson Davis then skied one to right fielder Swenson and knocked in Andrews for the 1-0 lead.
Larson was then lifted after 4 innings trailing 1-0 and Austin Timmons came in to relieve him. Timmons walked the 1st two batters Sirkel and Davis. Sirkel was then forced out at 3rd on a ground ball fielder’s choice by Logan Hayes. Jakob Holbrook then came in to hit for the 1st time in this game and ripped a single knocking in 2 runs and giving Tumwater a 3-0 lead. Holbrook then made it 4-0 when he stole 3rd and took home when the ball got past the catcher to the backstop.
Heading into the top of the 6th inning Chase had faced just 1 over the minimum with a no-hitter intact. After striking out the lead-off hitter, Austin Lawrence roped a shot into right field for a 1-out double to break-up the no-no. Chase then got the next 2 to ground out to end the 6th with the shut-out still in play.
The T-Birds added another 3 runs to salt the game away in the bottom of the 6th. Dustin Doll walked followed by a strikeout followed by Sirkel’s 3rd hit. Davis then knocked in Doll and Sirkel with a 2 RBI single and Holbrook would finish it off with his 2nd hit and a 3rd RBI for the 7-0 lead heading into the top of the 7th.
Chase got the 1st out but then hit a batter and walked the next and Head Coach Clay Hill pulled him and Landon Jordan came in to finish the game. Jordan coerced the next to ground balls to 1st baseman Garrett Behrens for the final 2 outs and the 7-0 win.
The T-Birds improved to 7-0 overall and 4-0 in league play while the Bobcats fall to 1-5 and 0-3. Our Tommy Lowe of Greene Realty Players of the Game were Jakob Holbrook for Tumwater and Grant Larson for Aberdeen.
