(Woodland, WA) The Woodland Beavers are now 1-5 in league play and getting extremely frustrated as they suffered their 5th 1 goal loss. The RA Long Lumberjacks jumped out early in just the 10th minute of the match when the Jacks stretched the field and a pass from Jesus Cabrera to Manny Cabrera who then got into a one-on-one with the Beaver goalkeeper, Filiberto Alamilla and punched it past with a low kick to the left side of the box and in for the 1-0 lead.

That early goal held up for most of the 1st half but Woodland got their offense rolling about midway through the 1st half and missed on several chances including a shot cleared by Jacks defender Zachary Chesley but Mark Gomez would take advantage off a corner kick that was initially turned away by the defense and punched in the equalizer in stoppage time. Gomez nearly gave the Beavers the lead just seconds later but the Jacks held tight and the game went to the break tied at 1-1.

As the 2nd half got underway the Beavers tried to maintain the momentum of their late 1st half goal. Woodland’s

attacks were answered by strong backline work of Chesley and Mason Nickerson and keeper Jose Radillo. The Jacks would then put together a scoring combination that ended up in front of Jesus Cabrera near the end line to the left of the Woodland goal and Cabrera was able to get off a sweet hook shot that caught just inside the far post for the go ahead goal in the 66th.

Gomez along with Patryk Platek, Cruz Rivera-Guzman and Brennan Lamoreaux began to feel the urgency for the Beavers as time ticked away and they pressed putting tons of pressure on the RAL defense. Their best chance for tying goal ended with a great save by Radillo. As time ticked down in stoppage time one final attack would be knocked out across the end line and looked like the Beavers would get a last second corner kick but the official blew time and the match was over. Beaver’s Head Coach Bryan Vogel was upset about cutting short stoppage time and ultimately drew a yellow card after the match was officially over.

RA Long is now 3-2 in league play and 5-4 overall while the Beavers dropped to 1-5 and 4-6. Our Tommy Lowe of Greene Realty Players of the Game went to RA Long’s Jesus Cabrera and Woodland’s Mark Gomez. Our ProActive Physical Therapy  Play of the Game went to the Jacks’ Zachary Chesley.
