United 6, Centralia 1
(Centralia, WA) Team United has not had a difficult time in jump-starting their offense who have now scored 16 goals in 3 matches against 2A schools and coming out with a 2-1 record. United dropped their opener 4-3 to RA Long then beat WF West 7-1 and now Centralia 6-1.
United jumped out to a 4-0 lead after the first 40 minutes. It didn’t take long for United to strike with a goal in the 6th minute. Gustavo Barragan got things started with an impressive shake move and drilled one past Tiger Keeper Jesse Vazquez. Goal #2 was the result of a Penalty Kick for a foul against Centralia. United’s Isaac Garribay did not miss and it was 2-0 in 18-minutes into the match.
5 minutes later United struck again this time Barragan fired a point blank shot hard at Vazquez who got his hands up to punch it out but it spun off his finger tips and ended up in the back of the net for a 3-0 lead. United’s Jonathan VanVleck finished off the 1st half scoring with our ProActive Physical Therapy Play of the Game with a low line-drive and through the 5-hole goal in the 33rd.
Centralia had a few offensive opportunities but could not find a scoring combination. Defensively the Tigers struggled on the back line and Vazquez was under fire for most of the 1st half.
In the 2nd half the Tiger defense tightened up and the offense was more aggressive and sustained their possessions and runs much longer. But the United defense dug in and kept the Tigers out of the score column until 75th minute when Centralia got a PK and Vazquez came up to take the free kick and knocked it in to make it 4-1.
United came right back in the 77th and Thomas Etheridge scored off a deflection of a Nicholas Patching free kick. United’s final score came a minute later when Brandon Cruz threw in a ball and a Tiger defender trying to clear it back to Vazquez flipped it over his head into the goal for an own goal and that wrapped up the scoring giving United a 6-1 win and improved to 2-1-0. Centralia dropped to 0-2-0.
Our Tommy Lowe of the Greene Realty Group Players of the Game went to United’s Gustavo Barragan and to Centralia’s Mauricio Mosqueda-Zuniga.
