The Eli Sports Network recently announced the launching of a new foundation called the “Soanka Fund” where we will be raising dollars that will be distributed to schools through their Athletic Directors to help pay for the basic costs for kids to simply turn out and play. We are working on the legal details to create the new foundation and we hope to have the initial dollars available for the 2017-18 school year.
This isn’t stopping us from getting the fundraising started and we have a big rule when it comes to fundraising for the Soanka Fund and that is fun has to be included. Thanks to Tumwater Valley Golf Course we are going to host our 1st Winter Golf Scramble Soanka Championship on Sunday, January 29th. This will be the 1st weekend without football as the Super Bowl will be the following week. (We don’t count the Pro-Bowl as real football.)
The tournament is a standard golf scramble with teams of 4, each golfer must use 3 drives. Everyone hits a shot and you choose the best shot and all 4 of you hit from the same spot. We will have prizes for at least the top 3 teams, more depending on the number of teams we get to participate. It is by tee-off time which begin at 9:30am. The cost is more than reasonable of $35 per person which gets you 18-holes and 2 power carts per team. Food and Beverage you will be on your own. We will also have 2 KP’s and 2 Long Drives with a 50/50 cash prize.
We have room for 19 teams only, if you would like to play a little winter golf at Tumwater Valley and help get the Soanka Fund rolling we’d love to have you join. We will collect your fee at the course on the morning of the tournament but you need to reserve your spot and tee-off time.
