Gig Harbor 62, Timberline 46
(Lacey, WA) This was a battle of league unbeatens with the winner firmly staking their position atop the South Sound Conference. The Tides rely on their sharpshooting guard Brynna Maxwell and the inside game of Maddie Willett to pace their offense while the Blazers want to run you out of the gym. Early on it was Willett and Maxwell who would hold the advantage as the Tides jumped out to a 14-5 lead. The Blazers had trouble handling the ball and allowed Gig Harbor several 2nd chance opportunities.
Timberline got their offense on track in the 2nd quarter putting up 20 points. Late in the half the Blazers tied the game at 23-23 thanks primarily to foul shooting where Cadence Monti and Keshara Romain combined to go 9 of 10 in the 2nd quarter. Gig Harbor’s Maxwell would get on a run to close out the half scoring 7 of 9 points and the Tides had stretched their lead back to 7, 32-25 at the break.
In the 2nd half the Blazers would make several runs at the Tides but every time they would get close the Tides would put together another run. The final straw was Maxwell answering a pair of Monti 3’s with a pair of her own keeping the 9-point Tides lead. Late in the 4th quarter Gig Harbor took advantage of a desperate Blazer squad and found several easy buckets to pull away and secure the win.
The Tides improve to 5-0 in league play and 7-3 overall while the Blazers fall to 3-1 in SSC action and 6-4 for the season. Our Tommy Lowe of the Greene Realty Group Players of the Game went to Gig Harbor’s Maddie Willett and Tmberline’s Cadence Monti. Our ProActive Physical Therapy Play of the Game goes to the Tides’ Brynna Maxwell for knocking down a key 3-ball late in the 4th to put away the game.
