Olympia 68, Rogers 44

(Olympia, WA) Olympia Bears Head Coach John Kiley simply said “we need to get to work” prior to tonight’s 4A SPSL match-up with the Rogers Rams. Kiley was anxious to put behind 17 point loss to Bellarmine in their last outing. Coach Kiley was probably a little concerned if his squad would get off to the fast start he had hoped for when they led mid-way through the 1st quarter only 8-6.

Our ProActive Physical Therapy Play of the Game came early in this one when Andrew Lindsay came in late in the 1st quarter and immediately took a long pass from Ketner Young and laid it in for 2 and was fouled. Lindsay hit the free throw to complete the 3-point play and the Bears offense seemingly kicked into high gear.

Casson Rouse and Toran Effland paced the offense with Rouse scoring 16 of his 18 for the game in the 1st half while Effland had all of his 8 points as the Bears stretched their 7 point lead after 1 into a 37-21 lead at the break. For the Rams, James Baker kept them in the game with 9 and Alec Goelzer hit 2 3-balls for 6. But the Rams were fairly cold from the field and also found themselves in foul trouble sending the Bears to the line 12 times.

In the 3rd quarter the Bears put the game away and were led by Hunter Sipe who scored 9 of his 12 all in the 3rd. **Sidenote: Sipe would be 1 of 10 Bears whistled for a foul and would be pulled in the 4th when he committed his 4th foul. Sipe was the only Bear of the 10 who had more than 1 foul called, all other 9 would finish with just 1 foul.

There were several Bears with strong halves or quarters but Luke Kiley was Mr Steady scoring 9 points, 5 in the 1st, 4 in the 2nd and push the offense driving the lane and was 5-6 from the line. Kiley also handled the ball at times and played tight defense for an all-around solid game.

Jace Barrett had a solid 2nd half for the Rams with 7 while Baker had 6 to lead Rogers with 15. Aiden Fernando would also finish with 6 all in the 2nd half for the Rams off the bench.

Olympia improved to 4-2 in league play while Rogers dropped to 0-5. Our Tommy Lowe of the Greene Realty Group Players of the Game went to Casson Rouse for the Bears and James Baker for the Rams.
