(Tumwater, WA) The Camas Papermakers are not at full strength still waiting for players off the football team who won the 4A State Championship last Saturday to get eligible for the Basketball season were at Black Hills playing their 3rd non-league game against the Wolves.
Black Hills began the year with a whole new team dynamic after their leading scorer for the past 3 years transferred to Capital for his senior season. The Wolves are quickly adjusting to life without TJ Mickelson. Black Hills and Camas both came in with 1-1 records.
This game quickly turned into a game of runs and the Wolves would make the 1st one pulling out to a 9-2 lead over the Papermakers in the 1st quarter. Garrett Glenn and Noah Brewer and a big 3 ball from Casey Olson set the pace. But Camas would turn things around before the end of the 1st quarter with a 9-2 run of their own led by Tanner Fogle and the 2 teams would end the 1st even at 11-11.
The 2nd quarter would go to Black Hills early on and they would lead 17-15 with about 4 minutes still to play. Camas would then reel off 10 straight points while holding the Wolves scoreless and at the half Camas posted a 25-17 lead. Logan Miller and Tre Carlisle off the bench with Fogle pushed the lead to the break.
The script would flip and Camas would quickly score in the 3rd to take a 10-point lead 27-17. But that would be it until the last few minutes of the quarter as Black Hills ran off 9 straight to pull within 1 point. Glenn led the comeback with a pair of 3’s and Joe Crumley got hot at the free throw line. After finally scoring and trading buckets the Papermakers led by 1 29-28 when Nathan Chilian hit a big 3-point shot to give them a 4 point lead and they finished the 3rd quarter still up 32-30. Chilian’s shot won our ProActive Physical Therapy Play if the Game award.
In the 4th quarter the Wolves went ice cold scoring only 8 while Camas ramped up their offense and put up 21 led by Alex Glikbarg’s 9-10 shooting at the line to pull away for the 53-40 win. Camas was led by Tanner Fogle’s 17 which led all scorer’s, Alex Glikbarg also hit double digits with 11. Logan Miller had 9, Nathan Chilean and Tre Carlisle had 5, Bryan Nguyen finished with 4 and Levi Gilstrap had 2.
For Black Hills Garrett Glenn finished with 12, Noah Brewer 11, Joe Crumley 9, Hunter Grabski came in off the bench with 5 and Casey Olson had 3. Camas is now 2-1 while Black Hills drops to 1-2. Our Tommy Lowe of Greene Realty Players of the Game went to Tanner Fogle of Camas and Garrett Glenn for Black Hills.
