The Eli Sports Network will be busy this weekend with 2 State Girls Soccer Tournament’s on our schedule. Our coverage will include the 2B and 4A Tournaments. We picked these tournaments because they have teams from our area that we broadcast from the most. In the 2B’s it’s Adna and Kalama and 4A Camas. This is our first priority in choosing games or events. The other reason is that the location of these 2 tournaments at Sunset Chev in Sumner and Sparks Stadium in Puyallup our crew can bounce back and forth to each stadium and to cover both tournaments.
There is a chance on Saturday that some of the broadcasts will start late as they are back to back 10a at Sunset, 12 noon at Sparks, 2pm at Sunset and 4pm at Sparks. Our crew will be on there toes getting to each one of these matches but we will do our best to get to each one.
We have just 1 football game on the docket this week and that is ArchBishop Murphy at Tumwater Quarterfinal match-up. This is a re-match from last year’s State Semi-Final where Tumwater came from behind late in the game to beat the Wildcats, ABM is looking for revenge.
This match-up has some scratching their heads as to why the #1 and #2 ranked teams are meeting in the quarterfinals. It is a result of a new system in District 1 and 2 where they determine the seeds into the State Tournament by an RPI index. The Wildcats were ranked as the 3rd seed we are guessing due to the many forfeit wins the Wildcats received this season when several teams decided against playing them for multiple reasons.
For more on this check out the column by Larry The Sports Cat breaks down how teams are seeded into the State Tournament. Click here for the story. This game is also huge for the T-Birds as each game could be the final of the 43-year career of Tumwater Head Coach Sid Otton who announced he will retire at the end of this season. Also retiring will be long time assistants Pat Alexander and Steve Shoun.
