Gig Harbor 3, Capital 0 (25-16, 25-18, 25-11)

(Olympia, WA) The Gig Harbor Tides were looking to clinch at least a tie for the SSC Championship and did just that sweeping the Capital Cougars. The Tides are now 12-0 with 2 matches to play in the SSC with games still left with Timberline and Yelm. Gig Harbor simply has to win one of these final 2 matches to clinch the title outright. If they somehow lose the next 2 and Timberline wins their last 2 the Tides and Blazers would tie for the Title. Timberline kept their slim title hopes alive by blanking Yelm Tuesday night 3-0.

Gig Harbor would have to really crumble to drop 1 let alone 2 matches in a row especially after dispatching the 9-2 Cougs in short order. In the 1st set Hannah Yerex and Selena Dutton were killing every other shot it seemed like with solid serving Paige Lawson and Lindsey Skaanes. Capital’s Maia Nichols and Hali Ehresmann tried to keep the Cougs in the match with solid net play and kill shots but the Tides opened up going from an 8-4 lead to 21-10 and cruised to the 1st win.

In the 2nd set, Capital would keep it closer and trailed only by 1, 18-17 late in the set. Dutton would make an incredible dig to help score a point and the Tides would pull away for the 25-18 win going up 2-0. In the 3rd and final set, Lindsey Skaanes took over the serve with a 13-8 lead and when she got done it was 21-8 and the match all but over. During this run Dutton was again solid along with Yerex who was killing and digging like crazy. But it was Lauren Hatfield who was raring back and firing kill shot after kill shot with at least 6 in this set alone.

Our Tommy Lowe of the Greene Realty Group Players of the Game went to Gig Harbor’s Hannah Yerex and Capital’s Maia Nichols. Our ProActive Physical Therapy Play of the Game was the flurry of kills from Lauren Hatfield in the 3rd and deciding set.
