Sumner 3, Olympia 0
(Olympia, WA)
It was a battle for 2nd place in the SPSL 4A and the Sumner Spartans came into Ingersoll Stadium ready for a showdown with the Olympia Bears. After a slow start by both squads the Spartans offense started to take over around the 15 minute mark. Sumner had a majority of the possessions on the Bears side of the field in the 1st half. Sumner’s offense had several good opportunities to put points on the board but were turned away by Bears keeper Carly Becker and defenders Chloe Gentry and Maddie Moen. Olympia had a few good shots of their own but they were from distance and contested well by Sumner defenders. The game as scoreless at Halftime.
Olympia would have the opening possession of the 2nd half but that was short lived. Sumner scored their first goal in the 47th minute on a pass from Samantha Larberg to Hannah Rowan for the low shot to the opposite post and the Sparts were off and running with a 1-0 lead.
Those two would connect again in the 49th minute but this time it was Rowan with a fake to get the keeper to commit to her and a pass to a wide open Samantha Larberg who would not miss and this would be our ProActive Physical Therapy Play of the Game.
The Spartan barrage would continue in the 52nd minute when Hannah Rowan hit a floating shot that fell perfectly over the outstretched hand of Becker for the final goal of the game. The Bears had few shots in the second half but Sydney Green would get the shutout.
Our Tommy Lowe Players of the Game for Olympia Chloe Gentry for her hustle and excellent defence throughout the game. For Sumner Hannah Rowan for having a foot in all 3 goals scored. Sumner takes over 2nd place behind unbeaten Puyallup with an 8-4-1 record while Olympia drops to 3rd place at 7-3-3.
