Tumwater 5, WF West 2
(Chehalis, WA) The expected storm hitting Thursday night certainly brought the rain but the wind had yet to arrive. The field at Bearcat Stadium is still natural grass and has been beat up from long football and soccer seasons. The middle of the field had a few bare muddy spots.
As the 1st half began you could see the field conditions having an impact on both teams as they tried to get comfortable with the slick footing. Tumwater had more scoring opportunities early on but the lead in passes were too far in front of the targets breaking toward the goal.
The T-Birds would break through in the 20th minute when Hailey Sanne scored on a crossing pass from Sierra Snyder. Sanne did a great job of settling the ball and setting up a high shot into the upper right for the goal.
The Bearcats would tie it up just 10 minutes later in the 30th minute when Courtney Bennett fired in a laser from the right side past the T-Bird Keeper Cassie Mullin. McKenna Moon got the assist and the goal was the 1st goal made against the T-Birds in Evco 2A league play this season.
Tumwater would take the lead before halftime on a Rillee Stillings goal. Stillings took the loose ball settled it nicely before powering it into the far post for the go ahead score.
In the 2nd half the T-Birds didn’t waste anytime in expanding their lead. Bella Foos took a brilliant touch pass from Mikayla Kee and fired it into the back of the net in the 44th minute to go up 3-1. 3 minutes later off a corner kick Sierra Snyder took advantage of a Bearcat defender who overran the ball and punched it in for a 4-1 advantage.
The Bearcats didn’t roll over and counter attacked the stiff T-Bird defense. With the ball ping-ponging around in the box a T-bird would get called for a hand ball and WF West would get a penalty kick. Nereida Soto got the call and she knock it in and the Cats were back in it with 17 minutes to play trailing 4-2.
Stillings would then seal the win in the 75th for the T-Birds with her 2nd goal of the night for the 5-2 final score. Tumwater improved to 7-0 in Evco 2A league play while the Bearcats dropped to 2-5.
Our Tommy Lowe of the Greene Realty Group Players of the Game went to the T-Birds’ Rillee Stillings and the Cats’ Courtney Bennett. Our ProActive Physical Therapy Play of the Game went to Bella Foos’s goal off the Mikayla Kee assist which ended up being the game winning goal.
