Tumwater 1, Black Hills 0  (4-3) shootout

First place was on the line and so was the Pioneer cup. Tumwater came out on a mission trying to go up early only to be turned away time and again by Freshman Goalkeeper Devin Herbert and the back line of the Wolves. The Wolves were having trouble clearing the ball and Tumwater took a lot of possessions on the Black Hills side of the field for most of the first half thanks to stellar play from midfielders Stephanie Moore and Mikayla Kee.

The 2 teams would battle to a scoreless halftime tie and the pace would pick up in the 2nd half but again the defenses and keepers came through blanking the other side. The Wolves did put more offensive pressure on the T-Birds with Emma Lindsay, Megan Lowe, Sydney Lowe and Bella Brown. Tumwater’s Cassie Mullin was a force in the box also pitching the shutout along with the3 backline led by Kasey Smack.

As the teams headed for overtime the stalemate continued with the biggest play coming from Mullin diving on a ball that would have easily been a goal had she missed. Before you knew it the 10-minutes of OT were over and we headed to a shoot-out.

Black Hills would shoot 1st with Emma Lindsay and she knocked it in for a quick 1-0 lead. Smack led off for Tumwater  and fired a hard shot to Herbert’s right but Herbert blocked it. When the ball hit the ground there was backspin and it rolled in before Herbert could keep it out and it was 1-1.

Up next both missed with the Wolves Bella Brown missed while Tumwater’s Hallie Bergford’s shot was blocked by Herbert. In the 3rd round BH’s Jewell Bender missed and so did Tumwater’s Mikayla Kee. The next 2 rounds both shooters for each team would connect, for the Wolves Jordyn Bender and Sydney Lowe and for Tumwater Stephanie Moore and Bella Foos  making it 3-3 after 5 rounds forcing a 6th round.

Shooting for Black Hills was Rylee Flahaut and she fired but Mullin blocked it setting up Tumwater’s Devan Hess for a chance to win it. Hess lined it up and knocked it past Herbert for the game winner, this play would also earn out ProActive Physical Therapy Play of the Game.

The T-Birds take over sole possession of 1st place at 5-0 in league play and Black Hills dropped to 4-1. Our Tommy Lowe of Greene Realty Players of the Game were both keepers, Cassie Mullin for Tumwater and Black Hills’ Devan Herbert.
