5/5/16

Battle Ground 8 Heritage 6

(Vancouver, WA) You knew you were in for a fun evening of baseball when the first inning goes something like: 14 batters, four hits, four walks, and six runs. What a way to kick off the first game of the 2016 4A GSHL baseball tournament.

Top of the second inning proved productive for the Tigers as they sent 7 batters to the plate and scored two more runs on two walks, two hits, and a sacrifice bunt to take a 5-2 lead into the third inning.

Top of the third inning saw the Timberwolves cut into the Tigers lead. Trevor Whorton, the starting pitcher for Heritage had a massive two run homer that was estimated to have gone about 420 feet. The next three batters would go down in order and after three the scoreboard read 5-5.

The score remained tied until the bottom of the 4th as the Tigers would send seven men to the plate and score two more runs via two hits, one walk, and a hit batsman. After four full innings of play the Tigers would lead 7-5 over the Timberwolves

We head to the 5th and each team would manage to push one more run across the plate on their behalf. Battle Ground got their lone run on three walks and a single. Meanwhile Heritage would get their one run on a walk and two singles and the scoreboard would read Battle Ground 8 Heritage 6.

That would wind up being the final score as the Tigers advance to the quarter finals with a hard fought 8-6 win over the Timberwolves and advance to play the Skyview Storm who defeated Union 2-1 in a great pitchers duel.
