Black Hills 12, Tumwater 2

(Tumwater, WA) The T-Birds celebrated Senior day just prior to the game and that would be the last time they celebrated on this day against their crosstown rival Black Hills. Tumwater Coach Clay Hill also decided to start all Seniors in this game even though there was plenty to play for. The winner would advance to the District Tournament as the 3 seed but the loser would have to host Aberdeen in a loser out play-in game on Wednesday. The winner of that game will then have to host the GSHL 5th place team in another pigtail, loser out game on Saturday with the winner advancing to Districts as the 4 seed out of the North.

The Wolves jumped on the board first taking advantage of a walk, 2 hit batsman and a wild pitch and they took a 1-0 lead. Zach James got the start for Black Hills and got started to a strong start with a 3 up, 3 down inning.

Black Hills would add to their lead in the 2nd. 2 more runs would come across the plate and it began with Nick Brosio with an infield hit. Brosio would steal a base then DH Tanner Ivie  came through with an RBI double. Nate Hutson would also pick up an RBI with a base hit scoring Ivie making it 3-0 after 2.

Brosio would kick-start the next scoring run in the top of the 4th with a base hit. Brosio again stole 2nd but this time the ball went into the outfield and Brosio took off to 3rd. After a strike-out, Jaycee Miller then hit one to short scoring Brosio on the ground out.  Hutson then got on with 2 outs by an error and Ethan Loveless was hit by a pitch. Austin Parr came to the plate and laced one into right field and got by right-fielder Treyton Rodriguez. Hutson would score and Loveless headed for 3rd while Parr ran for 2nd. On the throw to 3rd it would sail over the head of 3rd baseman Nathan Walter. Loveless would score and big Austin Parr rumbled around 3rd and slid in to home safely clearing the bases and givings the Wolves a 7-0 lead.

Tumwater would avoid the shut out in the bottom of the inning when Keenan Milligan got a base hit, stole 2nd then pressed his luck going for 3rd which resulted in an overthrow and Milligan would score basically scratching out a run out of thin air and it was 7-1 after 4.

Tumwater Head Coach Clay Hill then made several substitutions sending in the regular starters but the damage had been done. To make sure the Wolves added 3 more in the top of 5. Cole Lester got on board with a lead off hit followed by an RBI double from Alex Bowden. Brosio then got on by an error while Bowden scored and Brosio would score for the 3rd time on the 2nd RBI base hit from Hutson and it was 10-1.

Black Hills would take a 10-run lead in the top of 6 with a 2-out rally. Lester led off with a walk followed by a hit from Nik Quartano and then a walk to fill the bases to Zach Bankuti. Lester would score on a wild pitch to go up 11-1.

Tumwater had to score to push the game to a 7th inning and did so when Jacob Dardano walked and eventually scored on an error. The Wolves added a 12th run in the top of 7 for the final score when Hutson got a 1-out base hit and scored on an RBI single from Austin Parr.

The Wolves improved to 3-6 in league play, tied with Tumwater but they get the 3rd seed to Districts because they took the season series over Tumwater 2-1. Our Tommy Lowe of Greene Realty Players of the Game went to Black Hills’ Zach James and to Tumwater’s Keenan Milligan. Our ProActive Physical Therapy Play of the Game went to Austin Parr for his “inside the park” home run. Yes we know it technically was not a home run but it had the same effect and the big fella did make it all the way round the bases.
