Evergreen 9 Heritage 3
(Vancouver, WA) On a day that for sure Ernie Banks of the Chicago Cubs would have said, “let’s play two” ESN3 finally got their first baseball game of the season in.
The game started off innocently enough as Dawson Allen, the starting pitcher for the Evergreen Plainsmen had a three up, three down inning to start the game. Not so fortunate for the Heritage Timberwolves was their starting pitcher, Taryn Yarnell, who faced 9 batters and gave up three runs in the bottom of the first. Yarnell’s lack of not being able to control his curve ball would eventually do him in. Yarnell would also struggle in the second inning facing five batters but did not give up any runs.
The Plainsmen held the 3-0 lead until the top of the 5th when the Timberwolves would put together a three run inning courtesy of three hits. one walk, and one hit batsman. So, at the end of five innings we were tied at 3 apiece.
Things remained calm until the bottom of the 6th when the Plainsmen would tally 6 runs courtesy of three hits, two hits batsmen, and two errors. Toby Newell of Evergreen would pick up his second hit of the afternoon and finish the day going 3-4 with two runs scored, and one RBI.
Dawson Allen’s line for the game was 7 i/p, 0 er, 5 hits, and three K’s. At the plate he went 2-3, scoring two runs and picking up two RBI’s.
The hitting star for the Timberwolves was their shortstop Trevor Wharton who went 1-3 and had 2 RBI’s.
