Wilson 2, North Thurston 1

(Lacey, WA) The Wilson Rams were without their Head Coach on this night as Jason Gjertsen was not available so Assistant Coach Craig Vincent was in charge. This appeared to be even more of an issue considering Wilson only has 1 senior, Hasan Altameeni who was also out dealing with an injury. So the 7 Jr’s, 6 Soph’s and 1 Frosh took the field facing a solid North Thurston team with several returning starters.

In the 1st half it looked like the home team and experienced North Thurston squad would get the job done scoring in the 12th minute when Safwan Smael crossed the ball in which bounced off Jaden Remely and rolled to Ian Gibbons who punched it in for the score. Later in the half Wilson had a great opportunity to even it up when Anei Yel sidestepped North Thurston’s keeper Diego Roderiguez and looked to have an empty net when Ian McLean swooped in and cleared the ball securing the 1-0 lead at halftime.

At the half it appeared Wilson senior Altameeni was giving his teammates quite a pep talk and it seemed to spur on the young Rams. It took only 3 minutes for Yel to hammer in the equalizer on a middle pass and Yel hit a low shot that Roderiguez could not reach. The game would come in the 65th minute on a shot that would become the ProActive Physical Therapy Play of the Game. Wilson’s Jesse Marks took a loose ball broke away and stepped to the far end of the box and ripped a crossing shot to the far post with authority for the unassisted goal.

Wilson improves to 1-1 in Narrow’s league play while North Thurston drops to 0-2 and 1-2 overall. Our Tommy Lowe of Greene Realty Players of the Game went to Anei Yel for Wilson and Ian McLean for North Thurston.
