Capital 2, Tumwater 0

(Tumwater, WA) On an extremely wet night at Tumwater District Stadium the Capital Cougars were magic at the 2 minute mark in both halves. The Cougars struck in the 2nd minute of the match when Nigel El-Sakkary fired a crossing shot that bounced off of T-Bird keeper Britton Fine’s hands right at the feet of Rodolfo Castillo who would knock it in for a quick 1-0 lead.

The T-Bird defense would then clamp down and deny the Cougs for the rest of the 1st half. El-Sokkary, Riley Potkonjak and Scott Penner would all get good looks with on-frame shots but Fine with Dane Brizzolara and Logan Hess all came up with big saves especially Hess with a bicycle kick save in front of an empty box at the 25-minute mark to save a sure goal from Penner. The score would stay 1-0 into the halftime break.

In the 2nd half it was virtually the same as the 1st half in every aspect with El-Sokkary sending in a low, hot crossing pass connecting with Seth Sawyers who knocked it past Fine just 2 minutes into the 2nd half, officially the 42nd minute. It was El-Sokkary’s 2nd assist on the night. Once, again the T-Bird defense would then shut down the Cougs for the rest of the half.

As good as the T-Bird defense was for 76 minutes of the match the Capital defense was better for all 80 minutes. Alan Ryan, Jake Crawford and Walid Benmouloud were a stone wall back line while Sam Bigelow and Alyx Racimo combined for the shut out in the goal.

The Cougs are now 1-0 and Tumwater 0-1. Our Tommy Lowe of the Greene Realty Group Players of the Game were Nigel El-Sokkary for Capital and Britton Fine for Tumwater. Our ProActive Physical Therapy Play of the Game went to Rodolfo Castillo for the 1st goal of the season for the Cougs.
