(Tumwater, WA) A 3 team race for the Evco 2A has now become a 4 team with the hard charging Black Hills Wolves inserting themselves into the mixture with a big 10-9 hang on win over crosstown rival Tumwater. The T-Birds came in battered after losing their 1st 2 games of the season in back-to-back fashion to WF West and had hoped to right the ship against the Wolves and improve on their 4-2 league mark. The Wolves were fresh off 2 straight wins over Rochester after dropping a double-header to WF West. They came in 4-3, a half game behind Tumwater.

The T-Birds came in ready to get things turned around and Trayten Rodriguez knocked down the Wolves 1-2-3 in the 1st and the got some offense to boost his effort, In the Tumwater half of the inning Noah Andrews got things started by getting hit with a pitch. Black Hills pitcher Nate Hutson then got a strike out but Jackson Davis got aboard via fielder’s choice. Logan Hayes drew a walk to load the bases and Zach Jones came through with a 1-out RBI base hit to give the Birds a 1-0 lead. After a strike out, Michael Wagar then grounded one to short stop Jaycee Miller who bobbled it and the error scored two more runs. Hutson would get out of it but Tumwater sent 9 batters to the plate, scored 3 on the 1 hit.

Black Hills would get a run back in the top of the 2nd when Bryce Kincy walked and the scored on an RBI single from Austin Parr. Tumwater took the run right back when Noah Andrews scored his 2nd run after a lead-off walk and came home on Zach Jones’ 2nd RBI base hit and it was Tumwater 4-1 after 2.

The Wolves then uncorked in the 4th sending 12 batters to plate starting with a base hit from Ethan Loveless. Kincy then knocked him home with an RBI single which was followed by an RBI single from Kristian Knight to make it 4-3. Taylor Simmons then walked and that would be it for Rodriguez. Landen Jordan came in to relieve and on his 1st pitch got Parr to ground to Andrews who tagged 2nd and fired to 1st for a double play and there were 2 outs.

Alex Bowden then grounded one to Andrews who threw low and Wagar couldn’t dig it out scoring Knight to tie the game and Bowden ended up on 2nd. Nik Quartano followed with a base hit and then Nate Brosio scored Bowden with an RBI single. Jaycee Miller the belted a 2 run double and Miller eventually scored on a wild pitch. That wouold do it for Jordan and Wesley Swick came in but the damage was done and the Wolves led 8-4 scoring 7 runs.

The Wolves looked like the put the game away in the top of the 6th when they added 2 more runs. Brosio got on by an error and after 2 outs it was Kincy again who came threw with an RBI base hit for his 2nd hit and 2nd RBI of the game. Kincy then scored his 3rd run of the game coming home on another Knight RBI single and it was 10-4.

Tumwater did answer in the bottom of the 6th when Jackson Davis destroyed an Eric Jordan pitch over the left field wall. Noah Sirkel scored ahead of Jackson after blooping a single into center field. Hayes then walked followed by another base hit from Jones. A walk to Easton Sonnenfeld loaded the bases with no outs. Austin Parr came in to pitch and got Wagar to ground a ball to Miller who then turned a 6-4-3 double play. Hayes scored but that was a huge DP and the Wolves got out of the inning with a 10-7 lead. This would also win our ProActive Physical Therapy Play of the Game.

Tumwater then gave the Wolves a huge scare in the bottom of the 7th facing reliever Taylor Simmons. Noah Andrews got on by an error and then Simmons struck out the next looking like he would wrap up this win with no more drama. WRONG! Hayes then singled followed by Zach Jones who launched one into the right-center field gap driving in both runners and now it was 10-9 with the tying run on 2nd. Simmons then buckled down and got pinch hitter Jakob Holbrook to swing and miss on strike 3 to end the game giving the Wolves the 10-9 win.

Our Tommy Lowe of Greene Realty Players of the Game went to the Wolves’ Bryce Kincey and Tumwater’s Zach Jones. Black Hills is now in 3rd place by a half game over Tumwater. Wf West is now 1st and Centralia 2nd just a half game in front of the Wolves.
