Steilacoom 3, River Ridge 2

(Lacey, WA) The River Ridge Hawks were hungry for a win while the Steilacoom Sentinels are in a dogfight tied for 4th heading into this match with aspirations of making a run at the top of the standings. The Hawks were the ones who appeared they had finally put together a winning effort after scoring just 2 minutes into the match. Felipe Souiza ran down a missed pass back to the middle just outside the box, tapped around the Steilly keeper Jordan Bailey and popped it into the net for a quick 1-0 lead.

The Sentinels would ramp up their offensive attack and had a number of chances to score including 11 corner kicks for the game but it wouldn’t happen until the 17th minute when Alex O’Brien knocked a shot past Hawks keeper Josh Morgan. O’Brien took a lead in pass from Keegan Boyd and did not miss to make it 1-1.

River Ridge would strike back 12 minutes later when Riley Kirkwood would follow the same pattern as Souiza and take a ball that got through the backline and fired it into the net giving the Hawks a 2-1 that they would take to the halftime break.

Steilacoom regrouped at half and came out firing keeping the Hawks on their heels. However, the Ridge defense was stingy and for every run or attack Jarrett Stalcup, Kobe Reed and Matt O’Leary along with Morgan were right there to deny the Sentinels the equalizer. Steilacoom would finally break through but thanks to a penalty in the box. Keegan Boyd then did not miss the PK and in the 58th the game was all even.

Steilacoom continued their fierce offensive attacks with Boyd and O’Brien along with Zach Sprague, Cody Langham, Aaron Kuntz and Matt Connelly but it was Ty Reeder in the 67th minute that gave Steilly their 1st lead in the game. Reeder was deep in the box when a ball was launched in by Boyd and Reeder chested the ball into the net. This would also earn our ProActive Physical Therapy Play of the Game.

The Hawks tried to counter but the Sentinels would not give up the lead they worked over an hour to finally get and would notch their 5th win improving to 5-3 in SPSL 2A league play and the Hawks remain winless. Our Tommy Lowe of Greene Realty Players of the Game went to Steilacoom’s Keegan Boyd and River Ridge’s Riley Kirkwood.
