Black Hills 3, Centralia 1

(Tumwater, WA) Black Hills coach Todd Venable told us before the game he didn’t think he had a #1 pitcher but probably 2 #2’s. Solid pitchers that can gobble up a lot of innings. Well Jaycee Miller officially put his bid in for the #1 slot as he came out firing strikes and completely fooling the Tigers. He rolled through the first 3 innings 1-2-3, 1-2-3 and 1-2-3. It looked like he would knock down 12 straight after getting 11 in a row and then getting ahead of Nolan Wasson but would lose Wasson in the end and walked him. Christian Peters would belt one to deep center but Wolves centerfielder Nate Hutson would lay out for a spectacular catch to keep the shut out in order.

Meantime, Miller would get some offensive help, including helping himself but first it was Austin Parr who led off the bottom of the 2nd with a massive home run shot over the left field fence. That gave the Wolves a 1-0 lead after 2.

Black Hills would add to their total in the 3rd when Connor Furu got on board on an error. Miller then blasted one into deep center for a stand-up double and the Wolves had runners on 2nd and 3rd with no out. Tate Determan then came through with an RBI single scoring Furu while Miller advanced to 3rd. Cole Lester then skied one to left field easily scoring Miller on the Sac fly as Tiger left fielder could only make the catch and keep Determan from advancing and it was 3-0 after 3.

Centralia threatened in the 5th when Garrett Hicks singled, followed by a fly out, then back to back singles from Chase Evinger and Sak Alexander would load the bases for the Tigers with 1 out. Aliff would then ground one to Determan at 3rd and he would throw it home to Milo Ames for the force out on Hicks. Christian Peters would then hit a shot to Wolves 2nd baseman Nate Brosio who scooped it and easily tagged 2nd for the inning ending out once again denying the Tigers. In the bottom of the inning Tigers pitcher Cody Parker also would work out of a bases loaded jam holding the Wolves from tacking on to their lead.

Centralia would finally get on the board in the 6th when Wasson would walk with 1 out. Peters then walked and on a low outside pitch that got away from Ames both would move up one base to 2nd and 3rd with 1 out. Garrett Hicks then sent one deep to center scoring Wasson on the Sac fly but that is all they would get making it 3-1 after 6.

In the 7th, Centralia threatened again when Evinger opened with a base hit then was out on a force as Alexander got to 1st on the fielder’s choice. After a strike-out Miller was set to close it out for the complete game win but lost Christensen with a walk. Nate Hutson would then come in to relieve Miller and would get Wasson to ground out to Brosio for the final out giving the win to the Wolves.

Black Hills and Centralia are now both 1-1 in league play and with Tumwater’s win over WF West all 4 Evco 2A teams are tied at 1-1 after 2 games of the 9 game league schedule. Our Tommy Lowe of the Greene Realty Group Players of the Game were Jaycee Miller for the Wolves and Garrett Hicks for Centralia. Our ProActive Physical Therapy Play of the Game went to Austin Parr for his towering blast to get the scoring underway. Nate Hutson’s lay catch in centerfield was a very close second.
